Assistance the to the Elderly
Many in the elderly sector of society have
been
abandoned or are neglected by their
families and the government.
Any program or activities that provide
compassionate treatment towards the elderly
and allow them to continue to exercise their
creative spirit have great merit. The
Costa Rican Presbyterian Church provides several opportunities to support the elderly which are: DiurnoCenter for the Elderly in Hatillo 5 This center caters to eighteen elderly persons, all of whom are members of the community. Elizabeth Delgado Ciezar is the coordinator of Diurno Center, which is open from 7:00am to 3:00pm and serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon coffee. During the day, the participants receive occupational and recreational therapy to maintain their mental and physical health, helping them to feel useful and productive. The center has been in existence for 14 years and enjoys a good reputation in the community of Hatillo 5. The GetsemaniChurch, led by Pastor Arturo Piedra, promotes this service. There are plans to increase the number of participants this year. Ebenecer Program
The department of family orientation of the Divino Salvador of Calle Blancos in San Jose has created the Ebenecer program for the elderly. The objective of this program is to help and encourage the elderly in their healthcare. There is a monthly medical checkup given at a local health clinic. Every two weeks some twenty people get together for snacks, talks, prayer time and above all, emotional and spiritual support.
