RECONCILIATION AND MISSION PROGRAM

The Reconciliation and Mission program was
first discussed in Louisville , KY in November
of 1991 between representatives of the
Presbyterian Church USA and partner churches
and organization from Central America.  At this
meeting a pilot plan was developed that
allowed individuals of partner churches and
organizations immersion experiences of one
year in other communities of the region.

The desire is for participants to immerse themselves into another culture so as to learn diverse forms and content of liturgy, Christian Cosmos vision, mission practice and in this manner come to a more profound missionary spirit, enriched spirituality and then share this with their home community.

The program contemplated three areas of learning: language study, community formation and congregational participation.  August of 1992 saw the first 5 participants begin their orientation in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The program is defined by participant churches and organizations as "Our mission is to reconcile the process of living the Reign of God in community, in harmony, forgiveness and restoration; celebrating life, recognizing that all creation is of God; a gift and mandate.  One lives reconciliation serving God."

Without a doubt, this program has facilitated closer relationships between Central American and PC(USA) members.

The Reconciliation and Mission Exchange Program was born out of the conviction that a Christian response to a broken world must include sharing and working together in mutuality across cultural, geographical and economic barriers.

This program brings together people ages 22-65+ from Mexico Central America , and the United States to form an ecumenical and multicultural Christian community.
